Parque Santa Catalina is a park midway between Las Canteras beach (the east end of it) and Las Palmas Port where you will the cruise liners docking port and El Muelle Shopping Centre.
Visiting the park gives you a good idea of what the real day-to-day
life is like here.
On a normal day you won't see too much going other than old men playing
cards or dominos outside the cafés.
It's a good idea to come during lunchtime as there are some good value-for-money
restaurants around the park. And on Sundays they also have typical Canarian
During Carnival though
the park becomes the centre
stage. It's where all major performances are held.
There's also a tourism office here if you need to grab yourself a map.
And it's also where Las Palmas bus sightseeing tour leaves from. This
is the bus you can jump on and off and takes you around the city.
Towards the east of the park is Elder Science & Technology Museum
This is definitely a-must!
It is an interactive museum. And we had sooo much fun during our visit. We really recommend it especially to parents with children.
We spend an amazing 3 hours trying every gadget we came across
as...it's 'Forbidden NOT to Touch'.
I personally loved the military F5 fighter jet simulator
and the commercial airliner pilot's cockpit. The astronaut testing device
which you strapped into was also amazing. Equally fantastic were the
3-D dinosaur film and the chicken incubator.
And the staff were really friendly too!
It's 5 euros to get in for adults, but it really is worth it. The museum
is open from Tuesday to Sunday (10:00 - 20:00).
